OUR MISSION
The Russian American Cultural Center (RACC) provides permanent cultural representation to the more than 700,000 Russian-speaking residents in the New York City Metropolitan area. In addition to supporting cultural awareness and understanding of Russian-American emerging artists, Russian history and culture, the Russian American Cultural Center (RACC) aims to promote cultural exchange and cultural diversity among all of New York City’s cultural communities through shared experiences and mutual values. The Russian American Cultural Center (RACC) is a place where New York’s Russian-speaking immigrants may become culturally integrated into mainstream America, and where the American public may become more culturally aware and educated about Russian culture, history and art.
OUR HISTORY
The Russian American Cultural Center (RACC) was founded in 1998 and earned its tax-exempt 501 (3) (c) status in 1999. In the past years, the Russian American Cultural Center (RACC) has been responsible for facilitating cultural exchanges among the Russian-speaking population of New York City and other cultural communities across the Tri-State area. The Russian American Cultural Center (RACC) has also succeeded in bringing the best of today’s Russian culture to New York City. The Russian American Cultural Center (RACC)’s programming has consisted of numerous art exhibitions, literature readings, performing arts events, film screenings, and intellectual symposiums. We are currently working to expand our educational programming as well as our program for emerging and mid-career artists through ongoing exhibitions and an online virtual gallery.
CURRENT AUDIENCE / MEMBER DEMOGRAPHICS AND TARGET AUDIENCE
We are proud to report that we have an active audience/member demographic of more than 6,000 people representing diverse ethnicities and nationalities. Although our core focus is on the Russian-American and Russian-speaking community, the Russian American Cultural Center (RACC) welcomes everyone interested in Russian art, history, and culture. We are an inclusive organization. All of our events are bi-lingual (in English and Russian), and we are open to the public, serving audience members of all ages and backgrounds, regardless of national origin, ethnicity, race, religion, orientation, or economic status.
PRIMARY GEOGRAPHIC SERVICE AREA
The majority of our following comes from Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, but we draw from the entire Tri-State Area.
We are also committed to building our audience base to include tourists, visiting businesspeople, and a broad cross-section of city residents, business owners, government officials, and fellow not-for-profit organizations and their members throughout the five boroughs.
CURRENT PROGRAMMING
Artist Career Development Program: Helping emerging and mid-career artists gain exposure on the NYC art scene.
International Young Artists Registry: An online database of international artists accompanied by an exhibition series and an annual collaborative project with NYC’s immigrant communities.
Community Performing Series: Emphasizes community spirit and integration through multidisciplinary performances.
Literary Program: Gives the chance to meet with upcoming and established Russian American writers.
International Exchange Programs: Series of international exchange programs between Russian émigré artists in the USA, Israel, and Germany.
Children’s Educational Program: Bi-lingual art, music, chess, creative-play classes.
Educational Program and Services for English speakers: Introduction to Russian and Jewish Russian art/culture/history, Russian language classes, Parents & Children Russian language classes, assistance with travel logistics.
Archival Preservation Project: The collection of documents and artworks brought to the US by the different waves of Russian immigration (art donations are welcome and tax-deductible).
Salon Events Program: A multidisciplinary event series for RACC’s members including performing arts, literary readings, film screenings and lectures.
Club Events: Russian language club, gallery-hopping club, theatrical society.
Film Series: Russian films or Russian-themed films incorporated into a bi-annual six-month series.
