Synopsis: THE GUYS NEXT DOOR is an intimate portrait of a real "Modern Family:" Meet Erik and Sandro, a gay couple whose friend Rachel is a surrogate for their two daughters. Rachel, who is in her mid-40s, is married to Tony and they have three children. Together, they form a unique extended family. Elegantly shot and edited, told with candor and humor, the film is an inspiring story of family, friendship and gay rights.

Since our world premiere in April at the Sarasota Film Festival in Florida, we’ve been showing THE GUYS NEXT DOOR all over the country – from the Maine International Film Festival to screenings in conservative states like Alabama and Indiana. And we are proud to say we have won several “Best of Fest” audience and LGBT awards and a jury prize at film festivals.

Filmmakers and cast will be in attendance!

Humenuk and Geller spent over three years filming this intimate portrait of a gay couple with two daughters birthed by their close friend. THE GUYS NEXT DOOR explores the struggles and possibilities that creating family brings. In the words of esteemed documentary filmmaker Ross McElwee (Sherman’s March), “ With nuance, verve and humor, this film goes well beyond issues of surrogacy and gay parenthood and explores the humanity that connects us all.”
