Elizaveta Sergeevna Kruglikova, Portrait of Michael Nesterov
Elizaveta Kruglikova was one of the first Russian female artists who had a studio in Paris in the 1910’s. She is best known for her works in the silhouette style - cut-paper characters as well as a master of portrait genre. Apart from that, she specialized in monotypic and etching that stylistically placed her artwork between printed graphic and painting. Two portraits of poet Maksimillian Voloshin and artist Michael Nesterov belong to her late works of the thirties. Kruglikova’s signature portrait (1939) by Nesterov confirms that the two artists were simultaneously working on each other’s portraits.
