Konstantin Rudakov, Sketch of a portrait of Elena for Ivan Turgenev's book "On the Eve"
Graphic artist and teacher, representative of the famous Leningrad school of graphics. Exhibitor of the associations "World of Art", "Workshop of Artists", "New Union of Traveling Exhibitions". Took lessons from P.P. Chistyakov, studied in the private studio of V.E. Savinsky and in the New Art Studio at B.M. Kustodiev, E.E. Lansere, M.V. Dobuzhinsky. He studied at the Academy of Arts (1913-1922) in the workshop of D. N. Kardovsky. Since 1923, he collaborated with the satirical magazines Smekhach, Begemot, Krokodil, and illustrated children's books. He illustrated novels by E. Zola ("The Defeat", "Nana"), short stories and novels by Guy de Maupassant ("Dumpling", "Dear Friend", "Life", etc.), "Eugene Onegin" (1934), the novel by L. N. Tolstoy "War and Peace" (1941-1948) and others; and created sketches of costumes and make-up for theatrical productions.
Gradually he moved to easel graphics, created the cycles "Napmen" (1928-1932), "The West" (1932-1934), and "Naked Models"(late 1940s)
In 1930-1949 he taught at the graphic department of the Academy of Arts in Leningrad, at that time renamed into LVHTI - Leningrad Higher Art and Technical School (1924-1930) and INPII - Institute of Proletarian Fine Arts (1930-1932).
The artist's works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and in many regional museums and international collections.
